Innovation in design and integration of photovoltaic (PV) technology has become a crucial aspect in the energy transition towards a sustainable future. PV technology is already one of the most widely used renewable energy sources worldwide, with significant potential to contribute towards meeting the global energy demands. As a result, there is a growing need to explore and develop innovative approaches for the integration of PV technology into the built environment and the electricity grid.
One of the significant challenges with PV technology is its integration into the built environment. Traditional PV modules are often bulky and rigid, making it difficult to integrate them into building facades or other structures/surfaces. However, several innovative design approaches consisting Building-integrated PV (BIPV), Landscape PV (LPV), Agrovoltaic (APV), Floating PV (FPV), Vehicle-integrated PV (VIPV), Product-integrated PV (PIPV), Luminescent solar concentrator PV (LSC PV) are being employed to address this challenge.
